A Curious Mind with Business Acumen

With a BSc in Corporate Finance from a joint program of International Business School and Buckingham University. Dora is pursuing MSc in Accounting and Management Control at Stockholm University. Here’s an interesting interview with Dora

Tell us about yourself?

I was born and raised in Hungary and moved to Sweden in 2021 for my Master’s. Currently, I’m in my last semester at Stockholm University’s Master’s Program in Accounting and Management Control. I was always interested in specializing in health care, as it runs in my family. I used to be asked all the time if I will become a doctor when I grow up! While I’m an economist by qualification, I still find health care fascinating which is why I worked in a local hospital in pre-admission and administration and why I joined Neobiomics in the first place.

What inspires you?

Growing up, I always admired my parents’ work ethic and diligence which was a great example to follow. Now, I’m surrounded by many smart and hard-working people who inspire me every day to do the same.

As a Business Controller, what do you think are the top skills required in your profession?

Great question! There are many hard skills that one could acquire from the financial knowledge to an expertise in Excel. But I think the most important thing is the willingness learn about the business and the customers as much as you can and to be able to think comprehensively about the various operating areas. Also, don’t forget that it is not only about building your skills, but you need to enjoy what you are doing too.

What’s your impression of working in Neobiomics

Working in Neobiomics has been an amazing experience for me. I feel lucky that I could start my career in a supportive and flexible environment that allowed me to apply my knowledge in practice and gain valuable experience while being supported by great colleagues and friends. I believe that the great team and the brilliant idea and innovative spirit of our founders all contributed to the growth we are experiencing today, and I can’t wait to see what 2023 brings for us!

If not for your current profession what would you rather do?

For the longest time, I wanted to be a criminal lawyer, so probably that.

Introduce us to one Hungarian tradition that you love

Hungarians celebrate name days which I think is really fun. On the day your name is celebrated, you get some flowers, chocolate, and pocket money from your friends and family. It’s like having two birthdays

If you could learn one professional and personal skill, what would that be?

Instead of learning one new professional skill, I focus on improving my already existing set of skills nowadays. However, I think one of the greatest advantages of working at a startup is that you get to try different things which can help you in this aspect.

A personal skill that I’m trying to learn is speaking Swedish. I have been learning it ever since I moved here and can order coffee quite confidently by now but I’m hoping to reach a good speaking level eventually. Also, as we spoke so much about speaking German in the office, I’m thinking about taking it up again to refresh my knowledge.
